Vote

To registered voters:

The primaries are over and we are about 3 weeks away from the November election. Now is the time to start making plans to vote on November 2. If you know that you will not be able to vote on November 2, then make plans to vote when early voting is opened!

The 25% turnout for the primaries is a disgrace and should not be repeated in November. Whether you are Democrat, Republican, Independent, Conservative or Liberal; vote. The notion that your vote will not make a difference is a fallacy. Look at the races that have been decided by just a few votes when thousands were cast. The first race for Third District was forced into a runoff by a difference of only 160 votes. Had more voters exercised their right, the result could, very well, have been different.

The point I am trying to make is that, if you are satisfied with the status quo, then you need to vote to maintain it. If you are unhappy, then you need to vote to change it. The main thing is that if you don’t vote, you lose the right to complain about the results.

With the polls open on November 2, from 6:00AM to 8:00PM, and since there are no football games or other athletic events that day, there is no excuse for not voting, unless you are out of town, sick, or there is a family emergency. Early voting is for those people who will not be able to make iti to their polling place on Election Day. If you don’t know where you vote, the polling places will be listed in all the local papers before Election Day.

I have been reading the letters, in the Courier, arguing about the current administration and the congress. My question to both sides is: “Did you vote in the election in 2008?”

If you didn’t then you have no standing one way or the other.

With all the members of the House of Representatives and about one third of the Senate running for re-election, now is the time to make your position known. If you are satisfied, then vote that way, if not, then vote the way you feel, but VOTE.

In closing, I would like to say that let’s see a 100% turn out!!

God Bless the USA!
